Brooks Ghost 16 v Ghost Max | Running Shoe Comparison REVIEW | featuring @AubreyRunning
In this video I compare the Brooks Ghost 16 with the Brooks Ghost Max. Which is the better shoe and how have I been using them? I'm also joined by @AubreyRunning and he share his thoughts on these two popular Brooks running shoes.
I've now run 100 miles in the Brook Ghost 16 and 200 miles in the Brooks Ghost Max, so plenty of experience to draw from.
Hope you enjoyed this video review of the Ghost 16 and Ghost Max. If you did, give it a Like and Subscribe for more running related videos.

I prefer running around lake,river🎉🎉
Much flatter I guess 👍😊
Great review, thank you. I’ve done 92 miles in the Ghost Max. It is also showing slight signs of wear on the outsole. My previous shoe is the Glycerin 20 (400+ miles) which I really like for its cushioned ride. I’ve found the Max to feel a little firmer but more responsive. When choosing the Max, I tried the Max and Glycerin 21 in the shop. Both felt super comfy but I chose the Max because I’ve occasionally had issues with my metatarsal joints and wanted to try something different. When it comes to replacing the Max, I’ll try the Max V2, Glycerin 21 and Ghost 16 in the shop but I’m currently leaning towards either the Glycerin or Ghost 16. Just my preference. All great shoes though.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Paul 👍😊
Good to have you back, do what you need to do, we are the lucky ones. I haven’t uploaded our next video for about 3/4 weeks as I am currently ill with a chest cold… the pressure mounts. But we look after ourselves and our families first 😀
I've recently acquired the Gel-Kayano 28 and its AWL version. The plushest, most comfy shoes I've ever owned. I adore them, honestly. I'll likely use the regular 28 most in temperatures under 20°C, though.
Chris I have two valleys Downe and Cudham literally within a 5 k run plus the NDW at Knockholt less than 5 miles away so yes trails here mean plenty of elevation on almost every run . Another fab film so much effort with those fly by shots 👏🏃🏻♂️
Let’s go!!! Thanks for having me on here sir! Truly appreciated!
Great to have you on Aubrey 😊
A comparison with the Glycerin 21 seems more logical as on paper they seem to share the same aims.
Never got the chance to run in the Glycerin but would be interested on how it compares with the Ghost Max
I did wonder Chris what had happened , you did pop up yesterday out of the blue thankfully, very best wishes to your lad , looking forward to you making more down to earth videos 👍
Glad to hear that I'm still popping up on people's feed and thanks for your kind words 👍😊
I have a love/hate relationship with hills. On my longer runs (more than 8 mi) the hills show up late, so I usually end up hating them. But, on my treadmill, they're not so bad.
I think I have a love/hate relationship as well. I love to hate them 😂 I remember during my ultra marathon training, the treadmill was great for reaching my elevation targets.
With you on Colley Hill, it's evil!
It certainly is John 👍😊
Ghost 16 or Glycerin 20/21 ? Which one do you suggest…?
@hridaimanav3620 Never run in the Glycerin but if you want more cushioning I'd go with the latest version of that which has DNA Loft V3. If you are looking for a medium level of cushioning, go with the Ghost 16.
I live in a pretty hilly part of Glasgow so every run I always incorporate hills into it and I must admit I love it!! I love the legs feeling knackered once I’ve conquered the biggest hill and then it’s a nice slow jog down the other side 🤣 great video again Chris!
Thanks Gary 👍😊 I do wish I could love hills as much as you. Maybe I need more practice 😂
Not running related but your insta360 doesn’t seem to behave as it should and you can clearly see the invisible stick not cloned out properly by the software. Btw, hate hill running 😂
Yeah, that is a bit annoying. I haven't quite worked out why it's doing that and whether I can fix it.
Good to see you back hope your son getting better.
Thanks Andy 👍 😊
100ft a mile where I live in Co Durham so have the same difficulty as you finding somewhere flat which is longer than 5k.
Sounds like you're also in a hilly area Mark. We have no other option but to embrace the hills 👍😊
👌
👍😊
So good to have you back on the screen👍👍 keep the vids coming
Thanks Sean, nice to get a bit of consistency going again in the videos 👍😊
I love hills, but not hill reps! Great video Chris 😁
Thanks Gavin 👍 😊 Yeah, hill reps can be pretty nasty. I'll try them again in a couple of weeks to see if I find them any easier.
Check out the England top 😀
Filmed just before yesterday's match ⚽️🥅😄
@@HereWeAreRunningFootball leaves home ,Again😂 I really wish Kane win a big trophy🎉
My part of Somerset is hilly hilly hilly, and every direction from my house is up 😂. I’ve learned to not be afraid of hills, and even thank them for making me stronger! Another great video Chris, Thankyou 👏
Thanks Tina 👍😊 You are right, no point in being afraid of hills especially if they are unavoidable.
Not a lover for hill's myself but great benefits from doing them, not very kean on that top you were whereing Chris at the end of the video 🤣👍
Haha, filmed that bit just before the match was due to start 👍😊
Nice one, great content Chris! I used to live up the road from Reigate so used to train on those very same hills! Moved to Devon 9 years ago and very similarly I have to travel to find anywhere flat to do any kind of interval speed sessions! A question for you, what mic and camera set up do you use for your videos, I especially like the "running towards/away" shots! Cheers, Steve
Thanks Steve 👍😊 I remember Devon from past holidays so can appreciate that it's pretty hilly too. In this video I used the Insta360 X3. I have a selfie stick with a tripod built in, so I can place it on the ground, run past it and when I edit using the Insta360 software, it tracks me. The audio on the camera itself it's great so I use a Rode wireless mic. The receiver attaches directly to the Insta360 X3 and I wear the transmitter. There is more effort editing with the Insta360 but I like the different types of shots you can get. My goto camera which I use in most of my videos is a GoPro Hero 10.
@@HereWeAreRunning That's great Chris, thanks. I've always been a GoPro fan but have been looking at the Insta360 for the vids I do on my little channel South West Runner (not up to your standard!), so you'd recommend the X3? Any particular Rode mic? Cheers, Steve.
@@steverichardson1918 As an additional camera, for some variety of shots the Insta360 X3 is good. I don't think I'd ever use it as my main camera on my runs. IMO you can't beat a GoPro.The mic is a Rode Wireless Mic Go (I think)
Which camera do you use for this?
@derekwhughes I was using the Insta360 X3. It's a good camera, although not the best audio, so I use a Rode wireless mic with it.
@@HereWeAreRunningThanks for that. And, thanks for the video. Keep them coming
If you ever visit here in New York City, you can run the 6.1-mile loop around our famous Central Park. It is VERY hilly, especially in the north end. Many runners do long repeats up "Cat Hill" or "Harlem Hill" - and there are also three hills called "The Three Sisters." Come run our hills someday.
I like how all those hills and grouping of hills have names 👍😊
@@HereWeAreRunning We here in New York City have a "superiority complex" - so we make our hills have names so they seem more important than they are! LOL.
😄😄😄
Yes, I agree with you about hill training - it is very painful and tortuous, and it is fabulous for strengthening one's heart, lungs, leg muscles and for strengthening one's will and determination. But it does hurt!
I'm hoping to get much better at hill training over the Summer because at the moment I'm some distance off where I used to be.
@@HereWeAreRunning Chris, I am also way off the fitness I had two years ago, so I "feel your pain." I am older than you - we must be careful to slowly regain our fitness and not rush ourselves into injury or burnout.
@@HereWeAreRunning Good luck with your new government over there! I hope Keir Starmer keeps and loves Larry the Cat!!!!
Don't worry about Larry the cat, he's now on his 6th Prime Minister. He has record of lasting a lot longer than them! 😉
@@HereWeAreRunning LOL, Chris, yes, I agree - especially Liz Truss. Did you ever see the video on UA-cam where Liz Truss bent down to pet Larry and he walked away from her? I guess Larry is a good judge of character!
I, too, live in a hilly area in Essex and I appreciate the benefits (stronger muscles, great views etc) but sometimes I'd love to be able to go for a nice flat run round the woods!
A trip to Holland maybe 🤔 😂 The views from the hills are a definite advantage of living in a hilly area.
You should have done the hill sprints on Colley Hill really mate 🤣👍
Hmm... No!! 🤦♂️😂 Although I have seen runners doing hill reps up Colley Hill before. Very hardcore.
@@HereWeAreRunning Do it! Do it! Do it! 🤣👍
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Glad your back! Liked your videos, used to get them popping up, was happy when I saw you again. Hope everything goes well for your son!
Thanks Johan. It's good to be back. I'm enjoying my running at the moment and making videos again 👍😊
You sure have beautiful trails to run on. I especially like that creek crossing you sometimes go to with the stepping stones across the water. So pretty. And the view from Reigate Hill. You live in a very pretty area.
The stepping stones at the bottom of Box Hill are pretty special. Although it also gets quite busy round there, as there is a car park right next to them. I will be running up Reigate Hill this morning, as I'm doing a bit of Hill training today.
@@HereWeAreRunning Nice! I hope those stepping stones will show up in another one of your videos someday and I know we will see Reigate Hill. Come to New York City someday and run our famous hilly 6.1-mile park loop road in Central Park.
Aubrey's a great guy. It's good to see you get together!
100% and he's making some great content. I'm sure we'll be running together again soon 👍😊
How many people have a lunch break long enough to manage that!?! What about being sweaty and needing to change after, is that an extended lunch?….
I have some flexibility in my job, which means the hours can be quite long but it gives me the opportunity to get out at lunchtime if I motivate myself to do it.
Like King Alfred's soldiers and retreating Danes before me.. I also battled and sometimes died at Battlebridge a few times!
I do like Battlebridge for a bit of speed. Not many places are flat round here, so fortunate to have a track that is always available and close by 👍😊
Aubrey sent me here. Even though I really dislike Brooks shoes subscribed. :D
Welcome to the channel 👍😊 To be fair, until the past half a year I've felt that Brooks have been lacking in innovation in their shoes, especially the midsoles but for me they've turned a corner. I'll have a shoe review coming soon which is also going feature Aubrey sharing his views on Brooks.
@@HereWeAreRunning I've seen some promising reviews on the Ghost Max 2. It also looks great.
Aubrey set me……✨🙏🏼✨
Thanks Tyrik for checking out my channel. I'm sure that Aubrey will be making future appearances soon 👍😊
Aubrey sent me!
Welcome Eric, nice to have you here 👍😊
Hey Chris I was sent by Aubrey A GOOD friend of mine..my name is Seth and here for support I'm a average hobby jogger up to 10 k and a shoe running tech junkie can't wait to follow you on your journey one love God bless
Hi Seth, welcome to the channel. Thanks for joining the journey 👍😊
👌
👍😊
I've been struggling to run consistantly recently but these recent videos are inspiring me try to make time to get back into it. I dont live too far from Battlebridge so I might have to have a go at my own battle there!
Glad to hear the videos are helping you. Definitely fortunate to have Battlebridge nearby. Not many places to run on flat ground round here, which is why I use Battlebridge for my speed workouts 👍😊
Nice 👌🏻😀
Thanks Tina👍😊
Thank you for joining me sir…we must do it again!
It was a lot of fun and yes, let's definitely do it again 👍😊
@@HereWeAreRunninggreat job guys!!! Great to see you running together. And Chris, that track of yours is like mine... it's much harder to run fast in this than the "normal" tracks
Well done this week Chris. Good to get some speed work in too. You're back in the groove mate! Have a good one! Cheers! Phil
Thanks Phil, trying to kick start my body is proving interesting but we are progressing in the right direction 👍😊
I look forward to the next long run featuring Aubrey and Tim 👍
That would be fun 👍😊
Just need to get over a little injury and yes why not.
is this good for supination though?
Not a fan. Feels stiff and unresponsive to me. And the 1080 is mushy. Think i'm done with nb.
Blimey Chris that was quick!! 🏃🏻♂️👏😅
Thanks Michael. Much quicker than I was expecting and quite encouraging 👍😊
Welcome back u inspired me to run north down way 50.
Thank you. Good to hear that my videos are helping other runners. I still consider NDW50 as one of my biggest achievements.
👌👍
👍😊
Another excellent video 🎉🎉🎉 and, Cows !
Thanks Kerry. Can't beat a bit of cow footage 👍😊
Always good to see you back Chris, that was a damn fast mile. Nothing more annoying when you're at a fast pace and a car is turning lol. I love my longer runs but kind of dread the all important fast runs even though they are just as important.
Thank you, I know what you mean. At the moment I'm a bit out of my comfort zone on both faster running and long runs. Hoping to gradually reintroduce both back into my training 👍😊
